Kristen Breakfield

Rally for the Rescues, Kristen BreakfieldKristen knew from childhood she would become a horse trainer. As a child, she showed in the Paso Fino Association winning many awards. Her self-taught method and natural abilities were first used training Pasos on the family farm. After graduating from high school, Kristen worked at Horse Shoe Canyon Guest Ranch, Piney River Cattle Ranch, and Bluff View Farms where she gained experience and confidence. Perusing her interest in barrel racing, she showed at Circle H Saddle Club and went to State. Following her dream with passion and determination, Kristen started her own business, Smart Lil Acres, three years ago. Since then, she has been a trainer for Safe Harbor Equine Rescue and even adopted a mustang with a history of abuse and neglect. This is what led her to being a part of this competition.

Rally for the Rescues, Kristen BreakfieldAs the owner, operator, and trainer at Smart Lil Acres, Kristen is known for connecting with horses on a natural level. She has a gentle method that identifies a horse’s strengths and weaknesses and uses them in a positive manner. She teaches them to read the body communication and energy level of their rider, providing a deeper connection in the partnership. She encourages owner and rider involvement in the training process. Rally for the Rescues, Kristen BreakfieldThe experiences she exposes them to creates a more confident and versatile horse.

As a mother of two, Kristen is passionate about sharing the love of horses with the next generation. She allows low income students to participate in the care of horses in exchange for lessons. She also has an apprenticeship program which gives other dreamers an opportunity to experience the industry first hand. Kristen shares her knowledge and helps her interns build a clientele before they venture out to start their own programs. She hopes to expand her property in the future so she can continue to grow and help her fellow equestrians. She hopes to one day open a rehab ranch for troubled youth.
